The Zanzibar archipelago, 15 miles off the east African coast, has seen the biggest increase in foreign visitors. It is thought that the figures represent a wider trend of more Brits flying to African destinations, with the exchange rate in certain countries being touted as the main reason for increased passenger numbers.Commenting on the findings, Somak chief executive Ash Sofat said: “Africa represents real value at the moment, particularly in South Africa, where the rand has gone from 11.5 to 16.36 to the pound since January.”The findings come after some African travel agents said this week that fewer people would choose to fly to the continent because of the global economic crisis.Get the new Skyscanner Widget for your website or blog!
