first_imgExhibition showcases eco-friendly alternatives to plasticMumbai, Jun 23 (PTI) With the plastic ban coming intoforce from today, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)has organised a three-day exhibition at National Sports Clubof India (NSCI) at Worli here to showcase eco-friendlyalternatives to plastic items.At the exhibition, which started yesterday, 61 stallshave been set up which showcase alternatives to plastic, likecloth and paper bags, straw, brush, packaging items made up ofbiodegradable material.State Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam, BMCCommissioner Ajoy Mehta, Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar,star couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol, Yuva Sena chief AadityaThackeray were present at the inauguration ceremony.”We are happy to note that we have become the 18thstate in the country to ban plastic, and we have done thisdespite facing pressures from the manufacturers,” Kadam saidon the occasion.Devgn and Kajol supported the move and said they wouldappeal to the people to avoid the use of plastic.”The decision to ban plastic is better late thannever.
