Earl Whitter told Justice Paul Harrison at the pre-trial proceedings for the SIPT yesterday that there was too much evidence and that he was too new to the case to be able to adequately represent his client without the extra time; he asked for the start date to be delayed by six months. Speaking for the Special Prosecution, Andrew Mitchell expressed shock in the courtroom asking ‘what on earth has gone on, what has Floyd Hall been doing for the last four years.’Whitter, QC reportedly explained to the Judge in the application that Hall stands to lose much in the case as all 17 counts and all the defendants are linked to him. While ex Premier Michael Misick has a limit set that he can be sentenced, if convicted, to no more than 20 years; there is no cap in the Turks and Caicos on sentencing for bribery, conspiracy to defraud TCIG and one can be jailed for 14 years for money laundering. There is not court today; it resumes Thursday with decisions expected from Justice Harrison on all of the applications put forth ahead of the trial start. Recommended for youlast_img read more

PUBG takes page from Apex Legends in new update

first_img I thought this might be a mistake, but, no, the weirdly named HP Laptop 15t Value is indeed quite the value at this price. Specs include an Intel Core i7 processor, 12GB of RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive and a 15.6-inch display. However, I strongly recommend paying an extra $50 to upgrade that display to FHD (1,920×1,080), because you’re not likely to be happy with the native 1,366×768 resolution. Read Google Home Hub review Comments PUBG is getting a new feature Apex Legends players will recognize.  Bluehole/Krafton In the realm of battle royale games, PUBG and Apex Legends are still a ways from catching up to Fortnite. However, one game is adding a popular feature from the other. PUBG’s update #30 has a new feature called Radio Messages that will let players send short messages to their teammates without using voice chat, according to the patch notes on Wednesday. This addition is similar to Apex Legends’ Ping system. Players can use eight different types of messages via a wheel interface. The messages can ask for ammo or backup if an enemy has been spotted, or simply thank a teammate for helping. Where this new feature resembles Apex Legends’ system is that it allows for pinging. PUBG Radio MessagesThe new wheel UI to send messages for PUBG.  Bluehole/Krafton If a PUBG player is near an item or sees an enemy, selecting “ping” from the wheel interface will relay the position of said item or enemy to their teammates. This allows for players who chose not to, or are unable to, use voice chat to still communicate and strategize with their team. When Apex Legends came out back in February, many players cited its Ping system as one of the most innovative features of the game for allowing players to talk to each other without needing a mic. Others changes in update #30 are the ability to ledge grab so players can climb onto roofs or over fences, the addition of Desert Eagle handgun and gas cans will now blow up if shot. Reliance Industries bucks bearish trend to hit 18month high

first_imgWhile the benchmark stock indices plunge to multi-month lows due to fears over China’s turbulent markets, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) shares hit an 18-month high on the bourses, supported by improving prospects for the company in 2016.The stock price of RIL ended 2.7% higher at Rs 1,052 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday, reaching its highest levels since 24 June, 2014.Overall, the stock gained 6% in the past one week compared to a 3% decline in the benchmark indices. The BSE S&P Sensex closed at a 19-month low of 24,825 points.Analysts attribute the rally in RIL to its positive earnings growth outlook on the back of improvement in its gross refining margins (GRM).”We expect RIL to earn a premium of around $3 per barrel over the Singapore GRM taking the Q3FY2016 GRM to $11 per barrel from $10.6 per barrel in Q2FY2016. The capacity addition in the high-margin petrochemical business would further boost the profitability,” Business Standard quoted brokerage Sharekhan as saying in a Q3FY2016 earnings preview.Another brokerage, CLSA, expects RIL’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) to increase 50% in the next two years.CLSA maintains a “strong buy” on RIL as the Mukesh Ambani-led business conglomerate is set to commission projects worth $30 billion in 2016.RIL had announced to $55 billion till 2018 to expand capacity in petrochemicals, refining and launch its telecom arm Reliance Jio. Reliance Jio is expected to roll out its 4G services in the next fiscal year. Last month, Reliance Jio had launched its services initially for the group’s employees.CLSA expects the market capitalisation of RIL to go up 25% from current level if its telecom arm manages to acquire 10 crore subscribers in the first year of its launch, reported The Economic Times.Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), who have stayed away from the stock for the past few years due to its high capital expenditure and investment in the telecom business, are expected to increase their exposure to it.”Reliance Industries is our top pick in the oil and gas space and the main reasons for it is a fact that the two large projects commencing operations in the next fiscal — the gas cracker and the petro gasification — have the potential to double the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of their core business of petrochemicals and refining in the next three to four years. Along with it, the retail business is doing well,” Prayesh Jain, AVP – Research at IIFL, told CNBC-TV18.last_img read more

Death of spouse ups irregular heartbeat risk

first_imgThe death of a spouse is linked to increased risk of developing an irregular heartbeat up to a year after the bereavement, says a study adding that the risk is prevalent among those below 60.The condition known as atrial fibrillation — itself a risk factor for stroke and heart failure — can also flare up in cases when the loss was least expected.According to Danish researchers, acute stress may directly disrupt normal heart rhythms and prompt the production of chemicals involved in inflammation. Also Read – ‘Playing Jojo was emotionally exhausting’“The elevated risk was especially high for those who were young and those who lost a relatively healthy partner,” said Simon Graff of Aarhus University in Denmark. The team collected information on 88,612 people newly diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and 886,120 healthy people. They looked at several factors that might influence atrial fibrillation risk which included time since the bereavement, age and sex, heart disease and diabetes, the health of the partner a month before death, and whether they were single. The results, published in the online journal Open Heart, indicated that the risk of developing an irregular heartbeat was 41 per cent higher among those who had been bereaved than it was among those who had not experienced such a loss. Also Read – Leslie doing new comedy special with NetflixThe risk seemed to be greater during eight to 14 days following a death, after which it gradually subsided until after a year the risk was similar to that of someone who had not been bereaved. The highest risk was seen among people under the age of 60: they were more than twice as likely to develop atrial fibrillation if they had been bereaved and the risk also seemed to be greater where the partner’s death had been unexpected. Those whose partners were relatively healthy in the month before death, were 57 per cent more likely to develop atrial fibrillation.last_img read more
