(Eds: Updating with additional quotes)Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Tata Trusts U Dream Football today announced a technical tie-up with top German club Borussia Dortmund by which 48 talented Indian children are already getting training under the clubs youth coaches.Under the partnership, the Indian children, most of them from the north east, are undergoing football training in Bitburg, Germany.Beginning January this year the first batch of trainees, 35 of them from the north eastern states of Mizoram (17), Manipur (15), Meghalaya (2) and Assam (1) and the rest from other parts of the country, are to spend 10 months a year over six years in schooling and football training in Germany, it was announced at a media conference today.”The depth of training in Germany is second to none. The biggest challenge for us was to convince parents that their children can have an alternative career in sports. We are aiming to increase the number to 200 with the help of the German Consulate,” said founder Ronnie Screwvala of U Dream, which got into a partnership with the 125-year-old Tata Trusts last year.Asked what was the pathway laid out for the young football talent after the end of six years, Screwvala said “Its a 16-year relationship, six now and 10 later.””Tata Trusts has a legacy of supporting various sports events and activities since its existence in 1892,” said R Venkataramanan, Managing Trustee, Tata Trusts.”Tata Trusts is privileged to collaborate with U Dream Football and Borussia Dortmund in this developmental endeavour. Initiatives such as these make us proud and encourage us to contribute every day,” he added.advertisementThe boys are in the age group of 12-14 years and the aim of the programme is to ensure that all those enrolled play professional football by placing them in clubs across Europe, the Americas and Asia, including India.Former India captain Bhainchung Bhutia said India needed to do a lot more grassroots programme in football and added “definitely there has been improvement over the last three years” in this respect.”The FIFA Under-17 World Cup (to be hosted by India this October), is a start, but we need to make more kids play football for more talent to come up,” he said at a panel discussion. As per the programme currently charted, each week the trainees play games against top-ranked youth sides in the region as well as those in Belgium and Luxembourg and so far the Indian team has won 15 out of 20 games and lost three.”We have been approached by the All India Football Federation to allow them to include 6-7 players as probables in the Indian World Cup Under-17 squad, but we have asked for a trial game between them (the current India probables) and us,” said one of the persons connected with the programme. According to Brownsey, they have two goals that focus on the recovery of caribou and ensuring the success of the affected communities, while also maintaining a form of dialogue that will allow community members to have future input on the matter.Doyle says establishing a leadership table and a common knowledge base is important when it comes to Caribou Recovery.“That’s exactly what we were thinking through is a leadership table that would be able to oversee and provide input for the development of the Section 11 and the Partnership Agreements. I think that establishing a common knowledge base is really important to ensure that everything is known, from on the state of the caribou, on the economic analysis, and that is shared and everybody has an opportunity to question the experts that have done that work.”Lekstrom says he remains optimistic that they can develop a path forward, adding that it will take everybody at the table to form a resolution on the Caribou Recovery Program.“I remain optimistic that we can find a path forward but it will take, as it was laid out here, everybody at the table to find that resolution.”The full special meeting can be found on the Regional District’s website. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked P S Narasimha, amicus curiae in BCCI matters, to also act as mediator for the state associations of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Bench of Justices SA Bobde and A.M. Sapre has asked Narasimha to hear the state associations’ concerns and suggest the way forward to the Committee of Administrators (CoA). A senior BCCI official said the move has come as a huge relief for the state associations, which now have the option of getting their issues heard. It will also bring to an end the generic affidavits being filed by the CEO in violation of the newly registered constitution, he added. Also Read – Dhoni, Paes spotted playing football together”This is a huge relief for several associations, which were shocked and disappointed at the generic affidavits being filed by the CEO in violation of the constitution finalised by the Supreme Court. These were actually bordering on contempt since as per the constitution finalised by the court, it is only the acting secretary who could have filed an affidavit on behalf of the BCCI,” the official said. The SC also barred all courts in the country, including the high courts, from entertaining any plea relating to the BCCI and its state affiliates, that it is hearing. Also Read – Andy Murray to make Grand Slam return at Australian OpenThe Bench also asked Narasimha to look into the release of funds by the SC-appointed CoA to various state associations. Almost all the associations have cited lack of release of funds as a burning issue. Commenting on this, a senior state association official said the order was like a wave of relief for the state bodies of the BCCI. “A wave of relief has swept through the cricketing fraternity after today’s order of the SC. The members of the cricketing fraternity are grateful to the court for its observation that the game must go on.” “The restriction on the flow of associations’ own funds had all but brought the development of the game of cricket at the grassroots level to a standstill and this empathetic view will potentially bring an end to this unfortunate stalemate. The member associations have full faith in the new amicus and for us, his non-partisan approach is a breath of fresh air,” he smiled. At the previous hearing, the Bench had appointed Justice (retired) D K Jain the ombudsman of the BCCI and Lt. Gen. Ravi Thodge the third member of the CoA.
A day after the news about the contact between a convicted sex offender Charles Eric Waugh and Ohio State student-athletes, the OSU athletic department released an official statement addressing the matter. “The issue surrounding the individual from Kentucky is being treated by the Department of Athletics as a student-athlete welfare issue,” the OSU athletic department said in a press release late Friday. “When the University became aware that this individual had been seen in pictures-taken in public places-with student-athletes, proactive precautions were taken and the Department of Athletics alerted more than 1,000 OSU student-athletes about this person.” On Thursday, The Lantern obtained an email sent from OSU athletic director for compliance Doug Archie informing Buckeye student-athletes that the university was aware of the contact made between OSU players and Waugh. Listed on Kentucky’s sex offender registry, Waugh, 31, made contact with OSU student-athletes and coaches through social media, using the Twitter handle, @BdubsTriviaGuru. One of the players Waugh made contact with was four-star linebacker recruit Alex Anzalone from OSU’s 2013 class. In a photo circulating around the web, Anzalone is seen with Waugh, fellow 2013 OSU recruit Joey Bosa and Notre Dame verbal-commit Mike Heuerman. On Friday, Anzalone announced his de-commitment from the OSU 2013 class. At this time, it is not clear whether the de-commitment is related to his contact with Waugh. Other OSU student-athletes in contact with Waugh on Twitter include Buckeyes football wide receiver Verlon Reed and former OSU offensive lineman and Cleveland Browns signee, J.B. Shugarts on May 3 and April 28, respectively, In the email sent to OSU student-athletes, Archie warned student athletes of the potential problems that could arise when making contact with a registered sex offender. “The individuals who you associate with on social networking sites (i.e., Twitter, Facebook) can have negative implications on your reputation and the university,” Archie said in the email. “Please remember to choose your ‘social media friends’ carefully!” Archie’s email also included a mugshot of Waugh, as well as links to informational sites about how to block Twitter and Facebook users. Waugh was not made available after The Lantern requested comments from him on Thursday. However, Charlene Waugh, Charles’ Waugh’s mother, told The Lantern she was not aware that the email had been sent to OSU student-athletes, but said that plans were in the works “to clear her son’s name on Tuesday.” In its official statement, the OSU athletic department said Waugh is not associated with OSU in any manner. “He is not a booster. He has not engaged in any activities on behalf of the University,” the athletic department said. “The Department of Athletics will continue to monitor this issue and it will remain proactive in its efforts with regard to precautions for its student-athletes.”
Arsenal manager Unai Emery says his side will test their progress when they face league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.Liverpool moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League after their 4-0 victory against Newcastle United on Wednesday, while Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Brighton leaves them at fifth place and two points behind Chelsea.Arsenal’s form and performances have been inconsistent so far this season and Emery believes playing Liverpool will be a benchmark for measuring their progress.“It is a very big match for us and them. They are unbeaten this season and will be confident,” Emery told Sky Sports.“For us, it is a big challenge and a good test, of who we are and the difference between them and us.Crouch: Liverpool could beat Man United to Jadon Sancho Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Peter Crouch wouldn’t be surprised to see Jadon Sancho end up at Liverpool one day instead of his long-term pursuers Manchester United.“In the table it is clear but I also want to look on the pitch. We have had one test against them, at the Emirates, which we drew [1-1 in November].“We played a good match but I think in Liverpool it is going to be a different game to the one we played here.”
From performing for Danny Boyle at the Slumdog Millionaire premiere to rocking the Andes with the jingle of her ghungroos in Bogota, Sohini Roychowdhury has been a premier ambassador of Indian culture for the last several years. She is not just an Indian dancer and choreographer, but the founder of Sohinimoksha World Dance and Communications (Madrid/Berlin/Kolkata) and Sohinimoksha Artes de La India in Madrid, Spain.Connecting civilizations, creating empathy for all cultures and fostering global harmony is Sohini´s Monsoon raga this year. Her art without frontiers and the One Earth Project were effectively represented in Maya´s Dream, staged at the Bengal Club on August 18, that combined Indian classical forms with Spanish rhythms and Bulgarian folk. It was about idealism and the dream of a better tomorrow. Her perception of Durga, a mother, and warrior, who forgives Mahisasura the Bull demon instead of slaying him – underlined the quality of mercy relevant in this day and age. Tchaikovsky enriched their dance number that spoke of the strength and relevance of nature in all its elements. The Taandav, from the Shiva Puranas, and the Vedic chants, combined with Gregorian, defined effectively and uniquely, the One Earth concept of Sohinimoksha´s dance opera.
