Nick Miotke/Roadshow Earlier this year, the family of a Tesla Model X owner who was killed in a collision when the car’s Autopilot was engaged filed a lawsuit against the automaker in California state court. Now, the Fremont-based automaker has a second, similar suit to contend with.The family of Jeremy Banner is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Tesla, asking for damages in excess of $15,000, The Verge reports. According to NBC affiliate WPTV, the lawsuit was announced on Thursday, and it should be filed shortly in Palm Beach County, Florida. A Tesla spokesperson declined to comment.The collision occurred on March 1. Banner’s 2018 Tesla Model 3 was traveling southbound on State Highway 441 in Delray Beach when it struck an eastbound tractor-trailer. The crash ripped the roof off the Model 3, killing Banner. According to the NTSB’s preliminary report, Banner engaged Autopilot approximately 10 seconds prior to the collision, and the system did not detect the driver’s hands on the wheel “from less than 8 seconds before the crash,” the report states. The report says the vehicle was traveling about 68 mph before the collision, 13 mph over the posted limit. The NTSB notes that both data and videos show that neither the car nor the driver initiated any sort of evasive maneuver prior to the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.The crash has parallels with another, similar collision that also claimed the life of a Tesla driver. In May 2016, Joshua Brown’s Model S collided with the side of a tractor-trailer, killing him. The resulting preliminary report from the NTSB did not find Tesla at fault, and it also refuted claims that Brown had been watching a movie just before the crash. But the couple had tought times after an official from the election commission stopped their vehicle at Salem-Yercaud junction.He tells that Namitha raised objection when the official tried to check her bag, demanding that a woman cop should inspect her bag. He was showing his authority to everyone and behaving as if we were CRIMINALS!!He even opened the door of the back of the car despite of my pleas that sir My wife is tired and she’s slepping if you want I’ll wake her up , he still went and open the door and Namitha who was sleeping with her back resting on the door, almost fell out of the car !!! He said sorry but he still went on searching the car as if we were trafficking some illegal substances.Then he started checking everyone’s bags, and when he reached Namitha’s bags she refused to open her bag…. TO HIM! She said if you want to check my bag Kindly arrnage for a FEMALE COP. As its her bag and since it carries some intimate items, she would be comfortable to have a FEMALE COP who checks it. Thats all! That was the only matter!! Its Every Woman’s right to ask for a FEMALE COP if she’s uncomfortable.According to me, this whole matter has been blown out of proportion. Prothom Alo IllustrationA man was killed in what the law enforcers called a gunfight between two gangs in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi early Monday, reports UNB. Police identified the deceased as Fazlul Haque alias Fazlu, 48, son of Wahab Munshi. He was an accused in 10 drug cases, claimed police. A press released signed by senior assistant superintendent of police Abdur Razzak Khan, read that, being tipped off over a gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Rautha village around 1:45am over establishing supremacy, a team of police rushed to the spot. Police opened 10 rounds of bullet to bring the situation under control.The drug traders also attacked police, leaving four policemen, including officer-in-charge of Charghat police station, injured, it said.Later, police recovered Fazlul’s bullet hit body from the spot and seized a foreign pistol, a magazine, one-round of bullet and 55 bottles Indian Phensidyl.Prothom Alo, however, could not verify the law enforcement’s version of the incident independently as no version of it was available immediately either from any witness or from any member of the victim’s family.

Credit: Vilela, et al. ©2016 American Chemical Society Journal information: Nano Letters The researchers, Diana Vilela, et al., have published a paper on the lead-adsorbing microbots in a recent issue of Nano Letters.”This work is a step toward the development of smart remediation system where we can target and remove traces of pollutant without producing an additional contamination,” coauthor Samuel Sánchez, at the Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany; the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona; and the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies in Barcelona, told Phys.org.Heavy metal pollution in water is a common problem stemming from industrial activities, including the manufacturing of batteries and electronics, as well as mining and electroplating. These activities produce metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, and chromium, all of which pose a safety hazard to living organisms and the environment.In the new study, the researchers focused specifically on removing lead from wastewater by designing tube-shaped microbots with three functional layers. The outer layer of graphene oxide adsorbs the lead from the water. The middle layer, nickel, makes the microbots ferromagnetic so that their direction of motion can be controlled by an external magnetic field. The inner layer, platinum, gives the microbots the ability to self-propel themselves through water. When hydrogen peroxide is added to the wastewater, the platinum decomposes the hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen microbubbles, and ejecting the microbubbles from the back of the microbot propels it forward. Then the microbots are treated in an acidic solution to remove the lead ions, which can later be recovered and reused. The microbots can also be reused for further lead clean-up. “This is a new application of smart nanodevices for environmental applications,” Sánchez said. “The use of self-powered nanomachines that can capture heavy metals from contaminated solutions, transport them to desired places and even release them for ‘closing the loop’—that is a proof-of-concept towards industrial applications.”In the future, the microbots could even be controlled by an automated system that magnetically guides the swarm to accomplish various tasks. “We plan to extend the microbots to other contaminants, and also importantly reduce the fabrication costs and mass-produce them,” Sánchez said.The combination of self-propelled robots with functional layers also opens the doors for similar designs that could have applications in areas including drug delivery and sensing. © 2016 Phys.org
