Canon Bucks Trade Show Slide Plans Two New Events for 2010

first_imgWhile overall trade show revenue for b-to-b publishers fell 20.1 percent in the first quarter of 2009, according to American Business Media’s Business Information Network, Los Angeles-based Canon Communications continues to see growth from medical events and plans to launch two more, targeting orthopedic manufacturing, in 2010.  Canon will debut the OrthoTec Conference and Exhibition in Warsaw, Indiana in May and take the event to Switzerland in September. The locations represent the orthopedic manufacturing capitols in the U.S. and Europe.  Trade show revenue now accounts for 55 percent of Canon’s overall revenue. Earlier this year, Canon saw attendance grow 4 percent for its Medical Design and Manufacturing West conference and 20 percent for MEDTech Europe.last_img read more

Former Equifax exec gets 4 months in prison for insider trading after

Jun Ying, former chief information officer for the company’s US Information Solutions, was also ordered to pay about $117,000 in restitution and a $55,000 fine, the US Attorney’s Office said Thursday.In 2017, Equifax announced that it suffered a data breach that would affect more than half of the US population, exposing the Social Security numbers, names and addresses of 147 million Americans. The company learned about the breach on July 29, 2017, but didn’t announce it publicly for nearly three months.On Aug. 25, 2017, Ying texted a co-worker about the breach, saying it “sounds bad. We may be the one breached,” according to the indictment. The next week, Ying conducted a web search to learn what happened to Experian’s stock price after the company experienced a data breach in 2015.Three days later, Ying sold all his shares in Equifax, making more than $950,000. Ying’s insider trading happened 10 days before Equifax publicly announced its breach.Ying, 44, is the second Equifax employee convicted of insider trading related to the data breach. Sudhakar Reddy Bonthu, a former Equifax software development manager, pleaded guilty in 2018 to using the insider information to make more than $75,000 on the stock market. YouTube to Launch a Separate Video Game Service

first_img This summer, YouTube is making a major play in the gaming world.The Google-owned video platform is slated to launch YouTube Gaming — a site and app dedicated exclusively to video game-related content. The most popular performer on all of YouTube, for instance, is PewDiePie, a gamer with more than 37 million subscribers and 9 billion views.“On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let’s plays (humorous playthroughs with commentary), walkthroughs (strategic guides) and speedruns (an attempt to complete a game as fast as possible) to cooking and music videos,” wrote Alan Joyce, product manager, in a blog post announcing the endeavor.Related: As Facebook Video Swells, YouTube Creators Cry Foul Over Copyright InfringementThe new hub will feature specific pages for more than 25,000 total games as well as channels from game publishers and popular creators. Live streaming will be at the epicenter of YouTube Gaming, Joyce wrote, and in coming weeks, YouTube will revamp its streaming capabilities with features that make it easier to record and alert viewers when a stream is under way.Gaming is the third vertical that YouTube has pursued. After launching a music subscription service called YouTube Music Key late last year, which is still in beta, the company unveiled YouTube Kids, a standalone app, in February.YouTube Gaming is Google’s answer to Twitch, a live-stream gaming site that the search giant reportedly sought to acquire last year, but which Amazon ultimately purchased for $1.1 billion. Irma recovery Florida Keys will open to visitors Oct 1

first_imgTags: Florida, Hurricane Irma Source: The Associated Press KEY WEST, FLORIDA — Florida Keys officials say the island chain hit hard by Hurricane Irma will reopen to tourists Oct. 1.Officials made their announcement Monday, more than two weeks after the Category 4 storm made landfall in the Florida Keys. The storm destroyed an estimated 25 per cent of homes on the islands.Florida Keys officials asked visitors to postpone their trips after the storm damaged power and water supplies.
