Bantam Flyers get two wins in home-and-home against Peace River

JOHN, B.C. – The Northern Metalic Bantam Flyers had a successful weekend after a home-and-home series against the Peace River Sabres.The Bantam Flyers were the ones to strike first in Saturday’s game in Peace River. Noah Lang opened the scoring for the Flyers on the power play just past the five minute mark of the first period, assisted by John Herrington and Lee Kurtis. Nathan Brownlee added some insurance for Fort St. John with seven minutes left in the opening frame, Lang getting the assist.Herrington scored unassisted 5:17 into the second period, but Peace River had an answer just fourteen seconds later to make it a 3-1 game. Lang added his second of the game a few minutes later to keep the Bantam Flyers’ lead at three goals assisted by Jaydon Viens and Brandon Modde.- Advertisement -In the third period, the Flyers’ three goal lead ended up leading to a bit of complacency. Peace River got to within two early in the third before Hunter Brown scored just shy of the thirteen minute mark assisted by Justin Brownlee. Peace River’s Blake Anderson then scored a pair of quick unassisted goals within a two minute span to get a hat-trick and nearly force a tie against the Flyers, but Fort St. John shut the door to get the win 5-4.On Sunday, it was all Flyers in the first period. John Herrington, Duncan Ross, and Daric McDonall all scored unassisted early in the frame, while Owen Floriant and Noah Lang each assisted on goals by Hunter Brown and Nathan Brownlee to give Fort St. John a 5-2 lead after 20 minutes.Devan Minard scored in the second frame, and Noah Lang added a seventh goal in the third to give Fort St. John the 7-3 win on home ice.Advertisement The Bantam Flyers play their final home game of 2016 this Sunday at the Pomeroy Sports Centre at 1:45 against Grande Prairie, before heading to the EBIT Edmonton Bantam Invitational Tournament starting on Dec.27.On another note, Nathan Brownlee was selected to represent the Fort St. John Flyers in the ERBHL All Star Game in Beaumont, Alberta on December 17th.last_img read more
