After Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul deposes before BCCI Ombudsman over TV show controversy

first_imgA day after Hardik Pandya, his India teammate KL Rahul deposed before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ombudsman, Justice DK Jain in response to the notices sent to the cricketers over their loose remarks on women during a popular television show aired earlier this year. Both KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have tendered unconditional apologies for their borderline sexist and racist remarks. Notably, the two cricketers served suspensions and missed limited-over series in Australia and New Zealand. The BCCI decided to provisionally lift their suspensions pending an inquiry by the Ombudsman. The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) had decided to shift the inquiry to the Ombudsman right after DK Jain was appointed in the role in February.DK Jain had issued notices to both Rahul and Pandya to appear for their depositions last week.Meanwhile, BCCI officials have made it clear that the ombudsman’s verdict is expected in time before the selectors get together to pick India’s team for the World Cup on April 15.Considering that both have tendered unconditional apologies and served immediate suspension after their actions, it’s unlikely they would be made to miss any more cricket.Notably, both Hardik and Pandya are in Mumbai for their Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab. The two will go head-to-head and are expected to play a key role for their respective teams. While Hardik has been playing some sensational blinders for Mumbai Indians lower down the order, KL Rahul seems to have hit peak form at the top of the batting order for Kings XI Punjab.advertisementKL Rahul has amassed 217 runs in 6 matches for KXIP at an average of 54.25 with three fifties to his name. His unbeaten 71 in the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday helped KXIP chase down the target of 150 with 6 wickets in hand. While there were uncertainties surrounding their international future following the suspension, it is likely that both the in-form cricketers will travel to England as part of the Virat Kohli-led Indian team for the 2019 World Cup.Also Read | Hardik, Rahul were gracious when I apologised: Karan Johar tells India Today at DavosAlso Read | Started to doubt myself after Koffee with Karan row, I was hated nationally: KL RahulAlso See:last_img read more
